The warehouse stores an average of 1,500,000 cases of product. It handles 19,000 registered products (SKU’s), of which about 14,000 are in stock at any one time. The stock breakdown is:
The warehouse has 32 internal truck bays for indoor receiving and loading. Shipping and receiving personnel use 27 fork-lifts, 5 reach trucks, 5 order pickers, and 36 power jacks to move product. An automated storage area called the “high rack” has 7 automated cranes that can access product stored in special racking that reaches up to 8 stories high. The cranes can move products at the rate of 90 pallets per hour. Product storage is based on stock movement, with faster -moving products stored for easier picking and shipping. A voice-directed picking system, barcode-based product verification, and radio frequency scanning are all used to ensure rapid, accurate order fulfillment. In one year, over 13,000,000 cases of liquor products will pass through the warehouse and be delivered to over 320 communities in Alberta.
